A carport is a covered structure used to offer limited protection to vehicles, primarily cars, from rain and snow. The structure can either be free standing or attached to a wall. Unlike most structures, a carport does not have four walls, and usually has one or two.
Carports help keep the elements off of your car. They protect it from the hot sun, hail, rain, and snow. A carport may be attached to the side of a building or it may be free-standing. Many carports are located in the front of a home leading in from the main driveway, while others are positioned in side or backyards and have dirt, concrete, gravel or paved driveways.
